Teaching under the microscope

My son when he was 4, took this photo of an onion skin slide under a microscope using my phone. He had such a curiosity about the world, an insatiable desire to learn more. What happens with our factory-styles schools that children lose that love of learning?

As Carl Sagan said ” Every kid starts out as a natural born scientist, and then we beat it out of them. Few trickle through the system with their wonder and enthusiasm for science intact.”

This is a place for sharing ideas for great teaching that keep the wonder, enthusiasm and love of learning alive in children.
